Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
