Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his team followed a different programme. His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running. Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the barrier. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight. Hamilton wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace. The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
